...flea market finds...

...I picked up this lovely italian hand painted porcelain vessel at one of the fleas this weekend here in France...&....gifted it straight into the hands of my dear friends, Sage.  I think maybe it's original purpose was as a candy dish, but we decided a pretty place to stash jewels would be an appropriate use for it.  I had a hard time finding something similar in the current market, but came across these lovely hand painted petite bowls from Anthropologie.  What do you think? you can get the look here. ...this past weekend I made my way to a women's shopping event in Bidart France, Les Martines with my friend Julie.  It was so refreshing to walk into a beautiful space with so much creative energy.  These girls totally rocked it & all the product was amazing.  I ended up spending most of my time at L'atelier des Dames sussing out the perfect christmas gift- & of course I ended up walking away with more than I had planned on, but tis the season, right?  She had such gorgeous stuff...my favorites were her headbands that were crafted from fabric or lace mixed with chain & then these delicate little flowers made from fish scales...love!  My other two favorite stops were La Theiere Electrik & Rock Mafia.

...france x 3...

...month 3 was nothing short of exciting for us either.  we ventured up to La Rhune a mountain near by with breathtaking views at the top of the French & Spanish coastline.  Its about a 2 hour hike up & 2 hours down with the base in France & the summit in Spain.  We ran into lots of wildlife both times we've hiked it- a friendly pack of rams (yikes), pottoks (mini horses), & cows.  We plan on making it a once a month hike- it's spectacular.  Wills parents also came which was fun.  There just happen to be a quilt show in St Jean de Luz when they arrived (Kathy loves quilts!) so she & I ventured down to the "Quilt en Sud" for a day of quilts, crepes, rose, & mussels.  We also ventured down the coast of Spain with them stopping in Bilbao to see the Guggenheim (I was more impressed with the architecture & landscape outside than the exhibitions inside to be honest) & onto San Sebastian to hike to the giant jesus statue that overlooks the city.  Followed by tapas & rose of course.  The end of the month was marked by a trip to Jackson Hole Wyoming via London for my sissy's wedding.  We stayed with my Brittish cousins in London on our way.  They have a lovely flat & we were sure to sample the finest pubs London had to offer- noshing on fish & chips/bangers & mash accompanied by strawberry lime cider (a little too sweet for me) & Pimms!  Onward to Amy & Chris' fete in Jackson!  Complete with snow & a bout of the plague, but nothing got in the way of these two lovebirds.  The wedding went off with a hitch & it was truly a magical day. Whisky & Johnny Cash were flowing like water...I love that place..xx mvg

...france x 2...

...roundup of images from our second month in France- I know I'm a little late since we're now in the 4th month...holy moly! But better late than never!  Ok, so here's a little review...we got our last day of snowboarding in at Cauterets in the French Pyrenees- full of 80's garb & all- it was quite a site to see- I can't wait to get back to that resort next winter!  We also were able to explore a bunch of places around France like Bordeaux, Dune de la pyla (largest sand dune in europe- 2 miles long).  We also made our way up to Paris where my husband was filming a live photoshoot for Volcom.  We stayed in the Le Marais area- for sure my fave part of Paris- so charming with all it's tightly knit cafe's & boutiques (lots of emerging designers- sooooo good).  Will also got the chance to go to Switzerland to film a snowboard contest -last minute trip so I didn't get to tag along, but he did bring me back heaps of swiss chocolate- he knows the way to my heart :).  Amazing month & so many more adventures to come! x mvg

...last weekend was filled with girlfriends & flea markets for me!  Friday's there is a small market near the Halles de Bayonne that I went to last Friday with my friend Sage.  I picked up some good vintage tins along with an old map of France- definitely a framer.  Saturday was a flea in the village of Arcangues filled with more professional vendors- so the price points were definitely higher, but it was a gorgeous setting & was still cool to check out with my French friend Julie.  I walked away with another tin & a vintage glass bottle.  Sunday was the Ahetz village flea out in the countryside.  Sage & I braved the heat & cruised through the rolling green hills to this village which definitely reminded us of Vermont in the summer- we were love!  We both walked away with more than we probably needed, but hey- we're in France, right?  I picked up a couple side tables, a service bar, & an old studded leather chest.  The weekend was a success & each flea was promptly followed by a nice cold glass of Rose- parfait! xx mvg

...scarf man strikes again...

...every Thursday at the Quintaou square in Anglet there is a market that I go to.  It is filled with all sorts of vendors selling everything from homemade soap, to cheese & plants.  My favorite vendor by far is the scarf man.  It's actually becoming a problem.  Everytime I go I can't resist walking away with a handful!  They're mostly silk & vary in sizes, & they are all gorgeous.  I keep my eye out for the ones with a more ethnic vibe, or batik looking ones along with tie-dye & ombre.  My collection is rapidly growing- there are several that I wear on the regular & there are a few that I've purchased for window treatments (suggested from my friend Sage).  I'm excited to tie them together & hopefully figure out a way for them to look chic.  I just bought a bunch of teal & turquoise toned ones today & am hoping to create a valence in our bedroom with them.  Can't wait to show you the finished product....xx mvg

...mini pots...

...the dairy section in France is overflowing with yogurt!  Most have an entire aisle devoted solely to the love of yogurt.  Even better, many of the brands are sold in either little glass or ceramic containers, perfect for re-purposing!  I'm thinking tea lights for the glass pots & mini succulent flower pots for the ceramic ones.  I'm sure we'll have an army of these before you know it...the yogurt here est tres bonne!
